Import, Organize and Privately Share Your Selected Photo Albums with Adobe Revel

Import, Organize and Privately Share Your Selected Photo Albums with Adobe Revel | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

Adobe Revel is a new app, working across Mac and iPhone and iPad which makes it extremely easy to import all of your photos, help you organize them into "libraries" and "albums", and to share them privately with your selected contacts.

Adobe Revel also makes it easy to edit any image with a number of intuitive real-time controls and Instagram-like "effects".

I must say, after having imported nearly 25,000 photos, that Adobe Revel is very simple, intuitive and straightforward to use. Learning time is zero and everything works like you expect it too.

The free plan allows you to import unlimited pictures for the first 30 days, and then a maximum of 50 additional pics every month.

The paid option, at $5.99/month, allows you to upload unlimited number of photos always.

N.B.: For users with Android phones you can download Revel Importer. Revel Importer is not a full version of Revel but it does give you a way to import the photos on your Android phone into your Revel photo library.

There is also a web version of Revel at www.adoberevel.com. The web version of Revel includes almost all the features of Revel EXCEPT the ability to edit your photos.

Identify Key Colors Instantly and Extract a Color Palette From Any Photograph with Color Hunter | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

Color Hunter is a free web app that allows you to instantly derive a color palette from any image or photograph you submit.

To find existing color palettes on Color Hunter, enter a search term in the box at the top of the page. You can search by tag or hex color code or image URL.

If you have an image, you can upload it and get a color palette based on the colors in the image.

When you search for color palettes by tag, ColorHunter.com searches Flickr.com via Flickr's API for images labeled with the tag you entered. The thumbnails of the Flickr images are used to create a color palette. ColorHunter.com uses the Flickr API but is not endorsed or certified by Flickr.

A Curated Collection of Quality Clipart and Illustrations: ClipArt ETC | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

ClipArt ETC is a wonderful collection of quality educational clipart providing simple illustrations, icons and drawings in a multitude of areas, from history, to business, art, literature, music and sports.

A project of the Florida Center for Instructional Technology of University of South Florida), ClipArt ETC has curated over 65,000 images and organized, categorized each one of them, while providing descriptions and multiple file formats in which to download them.

I must say they really did a wonderful job. The images are great, the quality is excellent, the organization of the catalog is well done and easy to navigate.

From the official site: "Every item comes with a choice of image size and format as well as complete source information for proper citations in school projects.

No advertisement-filled pages with pop-up windows or inappropriate links here.

A friendly license allows teachers and students to use up to 50 educational clipart items in a single, non-commercial project without further permission."

The ClipArt ETC resource was designed and intended for educational projects but due to the many commercial requests it has received it now offers a "commercial" shopping cart to purchase any of its images for commercial applications. More info here: http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/info/license

How To Create An Animated Doodle Video for a School History Project

How To Create An Animated Doodle Video for a School History Project | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

Great job by Paul Bogush, an 8th grade social studies teacher at Moran Middle School in Wallingford, CT, who showcases with many valuable images and several video clips, how he had his class create a RSA-style animated video to help students visualize information, make connections, and re-tell official facts about an important historical event in their own personal ways.

The doodle, or RSA-style video [the name is due to a popular series of these clips available on YouTube], is a video where you see a hand that progressively draws and illustrates what the voice-over is explaining, providing a continuously flowing and refreshing visual illustration of what is being communicated.

The approach taken, how the students went about it, the tech used, and the final results all bring valuable insight to the curious and attentive reader of this article.

Highly recommended for any teacher.

Informative. Useful. Well documented. 9/10

Find and Drop Images, Quotes and Info References Into Your Presentations with the New Google Research Tool

Find and Drop Images, Quotes and Info References Into Your Presentations with the New Google Research Tool | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it

Robin Good: I used to love the Google contextual mini-browser (the Google Deskbar - 2003), something probably most people today have never seen nor have a memory of, but which in my humble opinion, was one of the best and most useful tools released by Google ever.

Well the little mini-search tool is back in a new customized format inside the Google Docs Presentation tool, where you can now easily search for reference, quotes, information and images related to the topic you are working on in your presentation.

Search becomes contextual and the relevant information found can be immediately integrated into the work we are creating. (Any information or image you find with the Google Research Tool can be intuitively selected and dragged onto the slide area, where it can be sized and positioned in any way you like.)

Each content item found with the Google Research Tool and utilized in your slide content is automatically linked back to its original source to simplify the credit and attribution process.

Extremely useful. Especially for quotes and images.

Find Instantly Free Images and Creative Commons Photos with Photo Pin

Find Instantly Free Images and Creative Commons Photos with Photo Pin | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it
Photo Pin is a free tool that helps bloggers and designers find beautiful photos for blogs and websites using Creative Commons licensing. Download the photos and get attribution links already formatted for you.
Robin Good's insight:

Pin Photo is a great free web service that facilitates your task of finding free, Creative Commons licensed images that you can utilize on your web site, ebook or blog.

"Using the open API of Flickr, Photo Pin searches the whole Flickr image database, which carries almost 39 Million pictures, if you reduce it to CC-BY-SA.

Switches in the Photo Pin surface allow for the filtering of search results and limiting them to commercial or non-commercial licences. Results are sorted by date, relevance or interestingness.

The search results page resembles the new look of Google Images and presents the pictures in an endless grid. Each image carries a link “Get Photo” which becomes visible on hover. Clicking on it opens a modal window from where you can perform the rest of the necessary tasks. Here you can see the available resolutions and, and this is the unique selling proposition of Photo Pin, the preformatted attribution link to just copy it out and paste it back in.

...Compared to manually performing these tasks on Flickr, you will save loads of time, especially when you are a heavy user."

See the new features of PowerPoint 2013.
Robin Good's insight:

If you want to know what characterizes the new PowerPoint 2013 from the version you have been using unitl now, here is all you need to know.

Key new features you should be aware of:

  • Wide-screen friendly  There’s a 16:9 layout, and new themes designed to take advantage of widescreen possibilities.

  • Start an online meeting from within PowerPoint   Send out a link to the slides, or start a full-on Lync meeting that displays the deck with audio and IM. Your audience can join you from anywhere, on any device using Lync or the Office Presentation Service.

  • Improved audio and video   PowerPoint now supports more multimedia formats, such as .mp4 and .mov with H.264 video and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) audio, and more high-definition content. PowerPoint 2013 includes more built-in codecs so you don’t have to install them for certain file formats to work.

  • Touch device support

Now it’s possible to interact with PowerPoint on most any device including a Windows 8 PC. Using typical touch gestures, you can swipe, tap, scroll, zoom, and pan your way through your slides, and really feel the presentation.

  • Share & Save to the cloud   Save your Office files to your own SkyDrive or to your organization’s site. From there you can access and share your PowerPoint presentations and other Office files. You can even work together with your colleagues on the same file at the same time.

  • Use Presenter View on one monitor       Presenter View no longer requires multiple monitors. Now you can rehearse in Presenter View without hooking up anything else.

  • Zoom in on a slide    Click the magnifying glass to zoom in on charts, diagrams, or whatever you want to emphasize for your audience.

  • Theme variations   Themes now come with a set of variations, like different color palettes and font families. And, PowerPoint 2013 provides new widescreen themes along with standard sizes. Choose a theme and variant from the start screen or from the Design tab.

  • Jump to a slide    Use Slide Navigator to browse to other slides in the presentation.

  • Automatic set up    PowerPoint can automatically sense your computer setup and choose the right monitor for Presenter view.

Simply by annotating on top of your materials – you can use various types of documents (PowerPoint files,  Word documents, images or PDF files) and put your annotation on them.

Explain Everything is an easy-to-use design tool that lets you annotate, animate, and narrate explanations and presentations.

You can create dynamic interactive lessons, activities, assessments, and tutorials using Explain Everything’s flexible and integrated design. Use Explain Everything as an interactive whiteboard using the iPad2 video display. Explain Everything records on-screen drawing, annotation, object movement and captures audio via the iPad microphone."

"Import Photos, PDF, PPT, and Keynote from Dropbox, Evernote, Email, iPad photo roll and iPad2 camera. Export MP4 movie files, PNG image files, and share the .XPL project file with others for collaboration."

Use case 1: Explaining ideas and concepts and send them as tutorial video to respondentsUse case 2: Collaborate and develop ideas by sharing and working on project filesUse case 3: Prepare materials and deliver on-stage presentation using Explain Everything presenter mode

Robin Good's insight:

For those who are looking for sound clips for their presentations or video soundtrack, FindSounds is an excellent web resource. This audio search tool is available both as a free web-based audio search engine as well as a commercial downloadable Windows software that specializes in finding, creating, editing and organizing sound clips.

The web-based version, can search any type of audio file on the web and it provides also a categorized repository of sounds that makes it easy to find some common sound types: http://www.findsounds.com/types.html

The downloadable software version, FindSoundPalette, can search for audio files by name, description, category, genre, source, copyright, format, size, number of channels, resolution, sample rate, duration, key, and tempo. It is also possible to search "by sound", a feature which allows you to automatically find similar sounds on the Web and in your sound collection.

You can also record your own sounds with the built-in audio recorder and edit sounds using the built-in audio editor. Useful is also the colorful Comparisonics waveform display which helps you "see" visually what you are editing.

How To Create an Effective Mood Board and Which Tools To Use To Do It

How To Create an Effective Mood Board and Which Tools To Use To Do It | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

Moodboards are a new, alternative and effective way to communicate a "style", "look" or "feeling" that needs to be conveyed through an advertisign campaign, a web site or a TV spot.

Officially, a mood board is "a collection of textures, images and text related to a design theme as a reference point." and as such they are visually organized collections of images that convey a specific look or feel and which can be used by artists and designers to be inspired, to conceive and design new stuff following the mood board reference.

In this article by Paul Wyatt, you can find good advice on how to create your first moodboard and in discovering what are the tools and services available for you to start on the right foot.

Useful. Resourceful. 7/10

Immersive Presentations: Get Your Live Video Inside Your Slides with Personify Live

Immersive Presentations: Get Your Live Video Inside Your Slides with Personify Live | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Personify Live is a new type of Windows app which allows you to integrate in your live webcast, online event or webconference your real-time video image overlayed on the slide content you are showcasing.

To achieve this result, Personify Live extends the capabilities of your favorite web conferencing solution (GoToMeeting, GoTowebinar, WebEx, Adobe Connect, Skype, Lync, etc.) "by extracting you from your surroundings and placing you within the presentation".

"The technology creates a virtual green screen feel for the presenter, for a communication experience that attempts to come as close to being physically present in front of the audience as possible.

[Personify Live] extracts live video of the presenter to then superimpose it onto the desktop to create a layer on top of a presentation.

There’s also a complementary iPhone or Android app that acts as a remote control, letting presenters mute the video feed of themselves with a click of a button, and interact with the content to emphasize and engage their audience.

Source: http://betakit.com/2012/11/12/personify-pairs-kinects-camera-with-videoconferencing-tools-to-amp-up-presentations

There are three ways in which Personify Live can be used:

a) As an extension to your existing web conferencing and presentation tools.

b) As a cloud-based production platform that can output a downloadable .MP4 video

c) As a live screencasting app by itself which can integrate with your presentation tools.

Pricing starts at $19.99/mo or at $199 for an annual subscription (which includes an Asus Xtion Pro Live Depth Camera and three months free).

P.S.: For Windows 7 / Vista only. (Mac version coming in 2013)
