Interview of Miłosz Garbarczuk, a plant director at Hager Group. He has been applying the Theory of Constraints (TOC) in his career for more than ten years Initially working in the steel industry, Miłosz discovered the TOC when he and his plant management team have been asked by their boss to read "The Goal" by Eliyahu Goldratt […] one of the best gifts he has ever received. […] switched from "euro per tonne" to "euro per hour". Then, TOC helped Miłosz and his sales team to create offers that customers couldn't refuse (TOC's Mafia Offers). Later on, he and his team managed to quickly identify the bottleneck in the factory - the paint shop - and rapidly increased its throughput […] next steps of Miłosz are to widely deploy the TOC way of managing projects - Critical Chain Project Management - at Hager Group across its whole portfolio.

For those of you following my works, you know that I am a big fan of this wonderful tool called the Goal Tree. The Goal Tree was initially intended to be the first logic tool used in a sequence of the Logical Thinking Process (LTP). The Goal Tree can be used as a stand-alone tool,…
What are the different components from the Theory Of Constraints? Eliyahu Goldratt, author of The Goal, [...] A lot of ideas were developed around the concept of constraint or bottleneck and the management of variability and/or uncertainty. The dual set of rules for constraints versus non-constraints. The "Throughput World", the recommendation to increase profits by increasing sales rather than by reducing costs.
- TOC in production - TOC applied to project management - TOC applied to supply chain - TOC applied to Marketing and Sales - TOC for financial decision making - Theory of Constraints applied to services
However, Eliyahu Goldratt also worked on "teaching the World how to think" or "how to think more logically". This is known as the Logical Thinking Process or Thinking Processes.
McDonald’s in France have over 1,400 restaurants. The French market is recognised as the most difficult market in the world because clients eat at very specific times and the culinary expectations are very high. It has for many years been one of the most innovative of McDonald’s markets. When rolling out the new “Made For You” global operational model they took the opportunity to rethink how they managed operations in their restaurants. Using a mixture of Theory Of Constraints, Lean and common sense they redefined how they managed flow. As a result

Throughput Accounting: Maximizing Throughput in Business with Graham Scott. In this episode, hosts Matt, Mike, and Jeff delve into the world of throughput accounting with expert Graham Scott, who shares insights from his extensive experience. Graham explains how throughput accounting differs from traditional accounting methods and emphasizes its practical applications in improving business efficiency and prioritization. We cover the theory of constraints and its relevance to modern businesses, especially in knowledge work environments.
Philip Marris's insight:
Graham Scott is the author of the [recommended] book: Practise Makes Profit.
A remarkable number of people ask me about Eliyahu Goldratt’s book The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement. Students especially used to ask me when I was Dean of Rotman. [...] The book, in all of its 337 pages, makes two intellectual or conceptual points.
The first is that if you wish to optimize the outputs of a system, you need to have an objective function — i.e., a clear goal. And it should be an intelligent one — an outcome that you really want.
The second is that any system will produce its outputs at the rate of the slowest step in the system. If a system is made of a single step, then the output accumulates at the rate of that single step. If the system is multistep, output accumulates at the rate of slowest of all of the steps.

Discover the Power of Integrating Lean and Theory of Constraints (TOC). When Lean principles and Theory of Constraints are seamlessly combined […] faster improvements and substantial increases in sales become the norm. Lean excels at eliminating wasteful practices, while TOC helps pinpoint constraints that, when addressed, increase turnover. Together, they create a powerful synergy, propelling your company into a continuous cycle of effectiveness and growth. […] insightful webinar on April 4th at 4pm (CET Time) …
Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) is part of the Theory Of Constraints. This video explains the basic principles of Critical Chain project management through an Engineering to Order (ETO) project. However, Critical Chain Project Management can be applied to any projects: new product development, MRO, software development, ... How to build a Critical Chain ...
This case study presents the journey of an ophthalmologist who, by implementing the Theory of Constraints (TOC), achieved a 64% increase in the productivity of his care in just 4 weeks, and all at no additional cost. The setting of the story unfolds in a Brazilian ophthalmological hospital, where the doctor in question performed two retinal imaging exams: retinography (fundus photography) and ...
Philip Marris delivers a "Crash Course on the Theory of Constraints". The manufacturing analogy makes it easier for beginners to grasp the notions of bottleneck, buffer protection, Throughput... before transposing it to Project Management.
In this video, Vicky Mabin shares her Theory of Constraints journey. It all began in 1986 when she read "The Goal" by Eliyahu Goldratt. She could see that ...
The Goldratt Dice Game, a simulation rooted in these principles, serves as an educational tool that illustrates the dynamic nature of constraints within a production system. Using the dice game, individuals can visualize how variations in process outputs can lead to significant fluctuations in system performance. This simulation not only reinforces the fundamental concepts of ToC but also provides a hands-on experience in managing and optimizing workflows. The upcoming article will dive into a Python-based implementation of this game using the Mesa library, showcasing how even simple simulated environments can mimic real-world operational challenges and highlight the impact of strategic decisions on overall system efficiency.
Welcome to the TOCICO Healthcare Portal. Eliminating the Healthcare Crisis with TOC. The Theory of Constraints (TOC) has been used to make significant improvements in the healthcare sector by teaching healthcare providers, clinical staff, schedulers, and managers that the very way they are managing their scarce resources (the physicians, surgery suites, the ward beds, etc...) is the core problem of healthcare. They can increase the number of patients treated, treat them in a timely manner, provide excellent healthcare at little to no additional expense by changing their traditional management practices (policies, procedures, rules, etc...). We’re excited to provide FREE ACCESS to TOC healthcare presentations ranging from an introduction of buffer …
