Set in 1937 amid the rugged beauty of Western Canada, Where the Spirit Lives tells the story of Komi (Michelle St. John), a courageous young Blackfoot girl. Taken from her home on the reserve, she is sent by the government to an English-speaking residential school and renamed Amelia. With the help of Kathleen (Ann-Marie MacDonald), a compassionate schoolteacher, Amelia must find within herself the courage to live in what white society calls civilization, and what to her is a foreign and hostile environment. Shot on location in the scenic Canadian Rockies.
Se déroulant en 1937, au cœur de la beauté de l’Ouest canadien, Where the Spirit Lives relate l’histoire d’une courageuse jeune fille Blackfoot appelée Komi (Michelle St. John). On l’enlève de sa réserve puis le gouvernement l’envoie dans un internat anglophone et la renomme Amelia. Avec l’aide de Kathleen (Ann-Marie MacDonald), une enseignante compatissante, Amelia doit trouver la force de vivre dans ce que la société blanche appelle la civilisation et ce qui représente pour elle un environnement étranger et hostile.
