Create and Show Presentations In Sync To Unlimited Viewers with Slides

Robin Good's insight:

Slides has released some interesting new features for its good web-based presentation service.

The first one is the ability to show a presentation to an unlimited audience of viewers, who can see your slide changes in sync with you, and without having to download or install anything.

The second one is a new speaker note facility that allows the presenter to see not only the slide being shown, but also the next one, alongside two timers, one for the time gone and one for the actual clock time.

Summary: Slides is a great HTML5 presentation creation tool, that makes it very easy to create, edit and publish presentation both online and off. Definitely worth a try.

Free version available.

Make It Easy for Anyone To Connect To Your Projector via this WiFi box: Prijector

Robin Good's insight:

Prijector is a new hardware device that eliminates issues arising when different people, who have different computers and setups need to connect to a projector.

You know how the story goes. One guy forgets his VGA adapter cable. One another doesn't have a HDMI out plug. And so on.

Prijector solves the issue by acting as an intermediary between any computer wanting to present and the projector itself. You connect via WiFi to this device and that's it, you don't have to worry anymore about cables and plugs.

Therefore even if you have a conference with multiple presenters, each one of them only needs to connect to the Prijector WiFi access point to be connected to the projector.

Key advantages I see:

  • you don't have to worry about people having the proper cable or adapater to connect to the projector

  • you are not locked to be within cable length distance from the projector

  • you can easily switch from one presenter to another easily without flipping cables

  • you can provide local wifi access to the people attending

I haven't tried one but it looks useful.

Pre-launch pricing: $119 (later $199)

Create and Show In-Sync Multimedia Web Presentations Across Devices with Swipe

Robin Good's insight:

Swipe is a new web app which allows you to easily create multimedia web presentations by simply uploading images and PDF files or linking to specific video clips.

Once uploaded, slides can be easily re-titled and can be sorted intuitively in any order you want.

Your final Swipe presentation can be shared with anyone and you can show slides in-sync to anyone viewing. You can even stop or pause video clips that are part of your Swipe presentation as they are being viewed and re-start them when you like.

Swipe-based presentations can be created, edited, delivered and viewed across all kind of screen sizes and devices from desktop computers to smartphones.

Cool features include the ability to preview the next upcoming slide without viewers seeing, private and public settings, and a custom timer that measures your presentation time.

My comment: Excellent presentation tool for delivering in-sync slideshows. For delivering presentations to an audience you need to factor in a teleconference or audio conferencing tool for the audio part. As it is Swipe it's great for one-to-one or small group conferencing via Skype in which you want to show a presentation in sync with everyone (screen-sharing for groups on Skype is a pro option, it's paid, requires lots of bandwidth and it isn't that great if you don't a lot bandwidth).

The approach used by Swipe to show slides in sync with everyone is very bandwidth effective and makes it possible to use this tool effectively in situations where participants have little bandwidth and use smartphones and tablets, in place of using screen-sharing apps which are bandwidth-hungry solutions.

Create Design-Perfect Presentations Easily with Haiku Deck for the iPad

Robin Good: Haiku Deck is an iPad app that makes it easy for anyone to create a highly visual and professionally-looking presentation with the minimum of effort.

Haiku Deck utilizes an approach that I think you are going to see increasingly around. "Embedded design" is the word I use for now to describe it. With it I mean the integration of design restrictions and limitations within the functionalities of the tool so that it is actually "impossible" to create something looking bad or amateurish.

And this is exactly what Haiku Deck provides. At the expense of some creative freedom (you have plenty of tools for that) Haiku Deck has decided to specialize in helping those that prefer investing more in finding the right ideas and words to communicate rather than juggling slide components around the screen to find the perfect balance.

Haiku Deck goes also a long way in helping you communicate in a highly visual format by making it extremely easy to find the images you need by looking for all of the Creative Commons-licensed images available out there that match your keywords or your specific requests.

Create Collaborative Multimedia Portfolios and Visual Collections with Dropr

Create Collaborative Multimedia Portfolios and Visual Collections with Dropr | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Dropr is a new visual curation and presentation platform which allows you to easily import / upload any type of content, from text to sound clips, video, images and more, to your online creative space.

Multimedia contents can be organized into Portfolio, Projects and Collections. (Frankly I was a bit overwhelmed by all these levels and by their effective role, but it looks like by browsing other people collections, that this is not an issue limited to me.)

To get an idea of the type of things you can do with Dropr go to the home page here: http://dropr.com and click on the Explore button on the top right corner. Then click on one of the three buttons (Portfolios, Projects, Collections) and see what a fantastic world of stunning visual portfolios can be set up with this tool.

Once you are in a collections or portfolio the visual browsing, navigation and experience is great. I'd recommend it to any visual artist wanting to set up rapidly a visual portfolio of his best work. The hard part, at least from a conceptual viewpoint, is understanding how to organize these different levels and how to take best advantage of them.

Go try it out yourself: http://dropr.com/

Add a Custom Voice-Over To Any Presentation with SlideSpeech

Add a Custom Voice-Over To Any Presentation with SlideSpeech | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

SlideSpeech is a free web app which allows you to upload .ppt or .odp presentations and to automatically add a voice over, digitally generated, that will automatically read all of the speaker notes associated to each slide.

Alternatively you can record your own voice via SlideSpeech, one slide at a time or upload pre-made audio files to go with each slide.

Under the hood there is also a little interaction facility that makes it easy to add a question and a set of possible answers at the end of the presentation.

The final presentation is posted online at its own URL, can be embedded in any web site or blog and can also be downloaded as a video or .zip file. A simple stat facility keeps also track of how many view your presentation gets.

It is also possible to set whether other people will be allowed to edit and remix your presentation and whther or not you want search engines to index it.

Available on the web and on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

My comment: Excellent free tool with lots of good features under the hood. Unfortunately you only have three digital voices to choose from: two males (English, German) and one female. Great download options but .zip is not enabled yet and the video option requires some additional Quicktime plugin to work but it doesn't say which one. Overall promising but with a few rough corners still.

Free to use.

Per aggiungere un commento audio alle slide di Powerpoint

Carol Sherriff's curator insight, November 15, 2013 10:34 AM

One of several such tools. A straightforward one to start with.

Gavin Keeble's curator insight, November 25, 2013 7:10 PM

Quite an interesting additional tool to add voice to your PPT deck - how useful it might be, who knows - may be for some key decision-maker/influencer who couldn't attend your face-to-face presentation?

Create Interactive Browser-Based HTML5 Presentations with Presentate (Alpha)

Create Interactive Browser-Based HTML5 Presentations with Presentate (Alpha) | Presentation Tools | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Presentate is a new web-based HTML5 presentation builder which promises flawless compatibility across operating systems and devices, integrated interactivy and some integrated design and editorial guidance.

From the official site: "Exporting your deck to a PDF, or uploading it to a Flash-based player shares a low-fidelity snapshot of your presentation. The accompanying narrative is lost, and your readers are left with pull quotes, sound bytes, or a bullet point summary.

Presentate does things differently. As you create your presentations right in the browser, they’re immediately ready to be shared with people, and the fidelity and value of all your hard work remains intact — no exporting process, no hassle."

"Unlike your current tools, Presentate helps you engage your audience — not with effects and gimmicks, but with a high-fidelity, immersive experience that works across all platforms."
