Robin Good's insight:
Pimagic is an excellent and super-intuitive free online image editor accessible to anyone without needing to download, register, login or install anything. You can easily upload any image you have, and crop it, or apply to it one of several presets which allow you to easily improve it. Pimagic also offers a set of visual effects, similar to those available in Instagram. Images can be saved in either .jpg or .png file formats. The only function I was not able to find was a resizing tool. Did I miss it? Useful. Easy. Immediate. Free to use. Ad free. Robin Good's insight:
ClippingMagic is a great free web app which allows you to easily remove background information from any image by simply highlighting the "type" of areas that need to be preserved from those that need to be "cut out". The tool allows you to import your selected image and to utilize two variable size brushes to identify with red and green colors the areas of the image that need to be cut out rather than preserved. Once done the basic stroking of the image you also have more advanced automatic tools, inside the Refine menu, to further improve the outline smoothness, aliasing and offset. You can also determine whether to leave the background transparent or to apply a specific color before saving your silhouette. Excellent. Highly recommended. Free to use. Free to use. http://www.picadilo.com/editor/ (Thanks to Francesco Guglielmino for kindly suggesting it)

FaceTune is a great photo-retouching app for iOS devices (iPhones and iPads). Designed specifically for retouching human faces, FaceTune provides a specific set of tools to help you do just that. To appreciate how good the tool is just look at anyone of the many video tutorials available (link below) which show you techniques and steps to clean up just about any pretty face. Pretty impressive. Great ease of use and highly specific effects make this tool a hard one to beat. Too bad there isn't also a Web version. Price: $2.99 More video tutorials: http://www.youtube.com/user/Facetuneapp?feature=watch More info: http://www.facetuneapp.com/ App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/facetune/id606310581?mt=8
