Robin Good: I definitely had the sensation while using my iPhone add cinemagr.am, that this was not just another toy app. The beauty and the challenge that the creation of cinemagraphs (animated GIFs) presents, opens up a world of fascinating possibilities for those who are involved with visual communication.
Animated GIFs, which have been around since way before the Internet took actually place (1987), have recently seen a huge comeback as new tools, applications and innovative uses have highlighted new cool uses.
This nice video from PBS illustrates a bit of the history of animated GIFs and why they are coming back to candidate themselves as a new art form.
